Day 18
It is 5:30 CDT our time and we are stopped for the night. We had started for Missouri today when we realized my aunt had moved to West Virginia so opted to head south. This put us into Mississippi
And in case you didn't read the sign you know because the "fasten your seatbelt" sign has the state fastened in....
The weather is in the upper 80s with humidity between 70 and 80 percent. It is not comfortable outside. It rained some today but didn't change the temperature. We have decided to head to Louisiana, haven't worked the details out yet so I can't tell you why. We have been traveling back highways and have found there are not a lot of places to camp. Tonight we are in Helena, Arkansas. Which means we had to cross the Mississippi River.
Kind of like crossing the Columbia River at Astoria only I think the Mississippi is wider.
We have noticed since traveling through Kentucky, Tennessee North Carolina, Georgia and now Mississippi a vine that covers EVERYTHING (ground, bushes, trees, cars, equipment, barns, houses)
I decided to find out more about it. The name is Kudzu Vine. It is an invasive species originating from Japan. It was introduced to the USA in 1876 at the Philadelphia Exposition. During the growing season (now) it can grow up to a foot a day. We saw some sneaking up on Wilbur so we made a break for it.
Bethany sent me this picture that she took today
From the top of the South Sister. We have seen so many amazing views and things but I love Oregon...
